Biographie
Sa carrière de réalisateur ne débutera réellement qu'en 1989, avec le film All About Ah-Long, pour lequel il sera nominé au titre de meilleur réalisateur, tandis que Chow Yun-Fat remportera le prix du meilleur acteur, lors des Hong Kong Film Awards 1990. Le film sera un gros succès au box-office.
En 1993, il se fait internationalement connaître avec The Heroic Trio. Une suite sera co-réalisée la même année avec Ching Siu-Tung. Par la même occasion, les occidentaux découvriront le trio d'actrices Anita Mui, Michelle Yeoh et Maggie Cheung. En 1996, avec son compère Wai Ka-Fai, auteur de nombreux scénarios et co-réalisateur sur de nombreux films de Johnnie To, ils fondent la société de production Milkyway Image. Cette dernière produira au fil des ans de nombreux films à succès.
En 2001, The Mission est le premier film du cinéaste à être distribué en France, suivi l'année suivante par Fulltime Killer. En 2004, Breaking News fait partie de la Sélection officielle, hors-compétition, au Festival de Cannes, puis en 2005, Election fera cette fois-ci partie de la compétition officielle. En 2007, il réalise Exiled qui sera lui aussi distribué en France.

mais c'est un realisateur exceptionnel, à ma connaissance, j'ai vu que des bon film de lui! le meilleur pour moi The Mission bien sûr!^^
et faut regarder love on a diet! il est ultra marrant ce film comme quoi il c'est faire de bon comedy romance aussi^^

moi je suis tout a fait d'accord avec toi: Johnnie To est un grand cinéaste!
si t'as pas vu Exiled, je te le conseil il est magnifique. =)
