He is Yahiko Myojin's rival, he wants to be strong, unlike his father, who is a weak and coward Samurai. His father has entered fully the Meiji era by selling his katanas and becoming "civilized" and wealthy. Yutarou is betrayed by his sensei Raijuta, who only used him to build his dojo. He is hurt in the arm in a fight between Kenshin and Raijuta and he will never hold a sword again. His father takes him to Germany after that.
